Trend Micro PC-cillin Firewall help: when first starting CrossClip, PC-cillin pops up a warning.

Click Allow. This will generate a basic "rule" for PC-cillin to follow.

(Note that this alert box will stay on your screen for only about 30 seconds, after which time it assumes that you do NOT want to allow the connection. To see it again, you could close CrossClip and restart CrossClip.)

The automatic rule will allow Outgoing communication, but to allow Incoming signals (and/or images), you'll need to do more. Right-click on the PC-cillin icon and then click Open Main Console.

(As you're doing this, it wouldn't hurt to notice which Firewall Profile is selected. Each of the four profiles uses an independent set of "exception" rules. So, if you later change which one is selected, you'll need to repeat this entire process of setting up rules.)

Click on Network Security, then Personal Firewall:

Select whichever Firewall Profile is in effect, then click Edit.

Click the Exceptions tab. Assuming PC-cillin has interacted with the CrossClip program (see step 1), evidence will show up here. Select the CrossClip program, then Edit. (Or, if CrossClip does not already exist in the program list, you could Add it, here.)

If you are editing an existing rule, you'll notice it is already tied to a "Specified application". Otherwise, you can browse to locate the CrossClip program. The default location is C:\Program Files\Stretched Out Software\CrossClip\Crossclip.exe

You'll need to choose a direction (let's do "outgoing" first) and make sure that "Allow" is checked, since a new rule defaults to "deny". The protocol needs to be both TCP and UDP. Optionally, you could specify ports 9091-9092, but leaving all ports available is OK. (In this case, no other program will be able to take advantage of the ports, as long as this rule is tied to a very specific program signature.)

Click OK. Then Add another new rule for the opposite direction of traffic. Assuming you started with "outgoing", let's Add a new rule for "incoming". All the rest of the settings should look exactly like those in the previous rule. Again, specifying the ports is optional, but here's what the screen will look like if you choose to do that:

After saving, you'll notice that PC-cillin creates its own rules at the top of the list, but puts user-created rules at the bottom of the list. To neaten things up and make it easier to understand later, you could use the arrows to move one of the rules closer to the other. This is what the screen looks like with both rules at the top:

We recommend putting these rules at the top, because the order determines PC-cillin's priority. Since these rules are specific to a particular program, they're unlikely to conflict with any other needs. On the other hand, if PC-cillin finds a different rule first, for example "Deny all traffic on ports 9000-10000" then the new CrossClip rules you just made would never have a chance to run.

Assuming your screen looks like the above example, keep clicking OK until you're out of the Setup routines. Quit CrossClip and restart, to make sure PC-cillin has an opportunity to follow the new rules.
